We don't add complexity.
We remove uncertainty.
MontiPower® exists to set the standard for clean, safe and controlled surface preparation. Our technologies remove, clean and profile surfaces without loose abrasives, delivering reliable bonding conditions for coatings and long-term asset protection. Surface preparation is not a side step in corrosion protection. It is the foundation.

Get the surface right. Performance will follow.

Help better coatings last longer
Our mission is to give every operator the cleanest, safest and simplest way to prepare a surface for the strongest possible coating bond. Getting the surface right shouldn't be a source of doubt. Our systems are:

Remove the guesswork
Reliable cleaning, removal and anchor-profiling for every substrate, protecting the asset for longer, with solutions that are fast, safe, user-friendly and better for the environment, and that go beyond what our clients ask for.
Our story
Founder Werner Montabaur, a car lover and Porsche racing driver, was inspired by performance. When he first encountered surface preparation in the 1980s, he realized the available tools couldn't deliver the result he wanted. So he built his own.
MONTI – Werkzeuge GmbH founded
Werner Montabaur and Detlef Thomas establish the company in Bonn, Germany.
First brush belt system
The 43 mm brush belt system, "MONTIPOWER", launches, sold through DIY stores.
First pneumatic drive unit
Lays the foundation for the MBX® series, which quickly makes its name in automotive.
The MONTI color-coding system
Different belts for different applications, black, ocher, green and blue, still used today.
The Bristle Blaster®
The world's first hand-held brush belt system to produce a surface comparable to sandblasting, opening the door to dozens of industries.
Four new innovations
Cleantech Prepper, Subsea Equipment, Autarq and the battery-powered Bristle Blaster® enter development.
Monti Group
New parent structure: nine divisions across surface preparation, with MontiPower® as the global brand.
Bristle Blaster® Ultimate
The Ultimate range launches, alongside new offices and acquisitions across the group.
Expansion across Asia & the Americas
Continued growth of the global network, local expertise, worldwide reach.
From a single brush to robotics
Almost four decades of surface-preparation innovation — manual, mechanized and, today, robotic.
Foundation of the company by Werner Montabaur and Detlef Thomas.
First patented standard-sized belts introduced.
First pneumatic drive unit developed, laying the foundation for the MBX® series.
Introduction of the Vinyl Zapper®.
US Motor Magazine honors the MBX® series with the 'Top 20 Tools Award'.
MontiPower® subsidiary established in Houston.
Patented Bristle Blaster® first introduced to the market.
Operations move from three facilities in Bonn to a centralized facility in Hennef.
Frits Doddema becomes CEO/Partner of Monti-Werkzeuge GmbH, with J. Libbert as Chairman.
Automation upgrade on factory equipment and launch of a series of cordless devices.
Norvestor invests in MontiPower® and becomes majority shareholder.
Establishment of MontiPower® Brazil through a JV with Tecnofink to enter the Brazilian market.
Acquisition of AirApp, a company developing power tools for the automotive industry.
Acquisition of ActiVet's global distribution business.
Björn Kastell appointed as new CFO; acquisition of MontiPower® Australia Pty Ltd.
Acquisition of GLG and Flakecoat, two service-focused companies.
Engineering & prototyping

A coating is only as good as its prep
Sustainability isn't an add-on for us, it's engineered into how surface preparation is designed, executed and manufactured. The closed-cycle alternative to grit blasting: repairable, reusable, resharpenable, recyclable.
Quality, because lives depend on it
Pipelines and vessels operate in some of the harshest conditions on earth. Our tools are built to achieve cleanliness and anchor profiles comparable to blasting, with surgical control and repeatability.
Productivity, because downtime is dangerous
No containment, no loose media, immediate deployment, even in confined or remote areas. Projects finish faster, safer, with less logistical burden.
Applicators, because hands drive results
Surface prep is physically demanding, especially on long pipeline joints or large hulls. Our tools are engineered to reduce fatigue, improve control and deliver consistent results.
Environment, because the planet isn't optional
No loose abrasive media, minimal airborne dust, waste limited to what you actually remove. Clean, dry, eco-conscious surface prep for sensitive marine and land environments.
We care because we've seen what's at stake.
- A coating system is only as good as its surface preparation.
- A tool is only as valuable as the craftsman using it.
- And progress must never come at the cost of the environment.
Leadership
Behind every MontiPower® solution is a team of engineers, specialists and industry professionals dedicated to one goal: surface preparation done safely, consistently, and built to last.

We didn't try to build a better blast pot.
We built a different method, patented from the start.
More than a power tool
A repair enabler versus high-cost replacement, and a productivity enabler — not simply a surface-preparation tool.
- Creates a blasting-like surface — not merely a polished one
- Cleans and profiles in a single cold-working pass
- Grit-free: no loose abrasive, no dust containment, no blast yard
- Portable enough for remote and hard-to-reach locations
- Ideal where conventional blasting is disproportionate to the repair
- Particularly strong on spot-repair areas below ~15 m², depending on application
- Fast setup — customers report being operational within minutes
- Lower rework risk through a consistent surface profile
- Lower dust exposure than many open abrasive methods
- Lower noise than several conventional mechanical alternatives
- Integrated tool + consumable system for repeatable performance
- Proprietary belt manufacturing with tight tolerances — Made in Germany
- Used across pipelines, refineries, chemicals, offshore, wind, marine, infrastructure and automotive
- Local technical support, demos and operator training
- From manual to mechanized to robotic surface preparation
- EN 1083-2 tested · ISO 9001 certified
