Bristle Blaster®
A patented rotary bristle tool that removes corrosion and generates an anchor profile in a single pass, delivering the cleanliness and texture of abrasive blasting, with no loose media, no blast containment, and no complex waste management.
Performance
The power of blasting. None of the fallout.
Preparation is the foundation of coating performance. Bristle Blasting puts that foundation under your control: consistent surface preparation, predictable anchoring surface profiles, and confidence before every coating application.
Aggressive removal
Removes heavy corrosion, mill scale and coatings, with results comparable to abrasive blasting.
Standard cleanliness
comparable to abrasive blasting: a verified, coating-ready standard.
Minimal containment
No abrasive media means minimal dust, no loose particles and no costly enclosure to build.
Self-cleaning belts
Air-cooled bristle belts operate without smearing, burnishing or heat, preserving a clean profile.
Grit-free, by design. No loose abrasive, no spent media, no secondary contamination, safer for the people doing the work, and better for the environment around it. Closing Cycles →
The patented mechanism
The secret lies in the patented accelerator bar and the dynamic interaction of the bristle tips with the surface, striking with abrasive-grade kinetic energy, then retracting instantly.
Impact
Bristle tips strike the surface with high kinetic energy, comparable to abrasive impact.
Accelerator bar
The patented bar increases tip impact force for maximum removal efficiency.
Retraction
Tips retract immediately, creating the anchor profile, no smearing or heat.
Coating-ready
A clean, profiled, grit-free substrate ready for the protective coating system.
Engineered for every environment
From subsea pipelines to ATEX explosive zones, one technology, configured for the job in front of you.

Cordless Alliance System
One battery. Every cordless tool.
Go cordless with MontiPower and a single CAS 18 V battery powers your whole kit — Bristle Blaster®, MBX® and Vinyl Zapper® all run the same pack. One charger, one battery inventory, no downtime swapping systems between tools.
CAS is the cross-manufacturer platform built on Metabo’s LiHD technology — so your existing CAS batteries from 45+ professional brands fit too. No proprietary lock-in, unlike Makita LXT or DeWalt 20V MAX.
Batteries & chargers →One CAS battery moves between all three, no separate chargers or spare packs per brand.
Proven on the coatings and substrates that matter
Every removal below has been documented and verified by 3D surface scan, on panels from leading heavy-duty coating manufacturers including Carboline, PPG and AkzoNobel. One method, across steel, stainless, aluminum, wood, concrete and composite.
Cleanliness comparable to abrasive blasting (11 mm BB belt, Rustgrade D) and AMPP SSPC-SP 10 / SP 5 (NACE No. 2 / No. 1). Results vary with steel grade, rust grade, belt and technique.
Preparation
is everything.
When the air is hazardous, the spark risk is the spec.
The Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic Ultimate has undergone an independent ignition-hazard analysis and ATEX 2014/34/EU conformity evaluation, so it can be specified for live oil & gas, refinery and petrochemical work where electric tools are not permitted.
Category 2, zone 1 gas & zone 21 dust
Zone 1 explosive gas, assessed for gas group IIA (petrol, hexane, propane), EPL Gb.
Zone 21 explosive dust, assessed for dust subgroup IIIC, EPL Db.
Fully pneumatic, compressed-air drive, no electrical components, no electrical ignition source.
Independently evaluated by Gexcon to the harmonized EN ISO 80079 series.
Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic Ultimate
Brush-discharge testing recorded no measurable discharge — passed for gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC.
Eight drops in ambient and frozen condition — no damage that reduces the tool’s ignition safety.
Operated inside explosive propane-air atmospheres (group IIA) with no ignition observed.
Markings shown reflect the scope of the independent ATEX conformity evaluation. Confirm the certified marking on the tool nameplate and Declaration of Conformity for your specific configuration before specifying.

Bristle Blaster® FAQ
What results does the Bristle Blaster® deliver?
How does it compare to power-tool cleaning (St 3)?
What is the working speed?
How long does a belt, accelerator bar and adaptor last?
Is it certified for explosive (ATEX) zones?
Yes. The Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic Ultimate has undergone an independent ignition-hazard analysis and ATEX 2014/34/EU conformity evaluation as Category 2 equipment: zone 1 explosive gas (group IIA, EPL Gb) and zone 21 explosive dust (IIIC, EPL Db), assessed to EN ISO 80079-36, EN ISO 80079-37 and IEC 60079-0. It is fully pneumatic with no electrical components, so surface prep can continue in oil & gas, refinery and petrochemical environments where electric tools cannot be used. In independent Gexcon testing it passed electrostatic brush-discharge testing for gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC, kept its ignition safety through repeated drop tests (ambient and frozen), and produced no ignition when operated inside live propane (group IIA) gas clouds. It is not classified for group IIC gases such as acetylene or hydrogen.Where can I buy a Bristle Blaster®?
What's the difference between the Bristle Blaster® and the MBX®?
Bristle Blaster® Belts
The Surface Preparation System integrates specialized power tools, wire brush belts and eraser wheels to perform a wide variety of surface preparation tasks, quickly, safely and economically.
Steel for carbon steel, stainless for stainless and non-ferrous. Never mix them. Axial belts come in left/right pairs.
Makita Power Adapter
Engineered to switch your tool to Makita batteries or backpack battery systems, delivering consistent power, mobility and efficiency for professionals who don't stop. Works with our Bristle Blaster® and MBX® Cordless solutions.

Master the surface.
Master the coating.
Vibration & noise, documented to ISO 5349-2
Offshore contractors and asset owners ask for independent proof before they qualify a tool. This is it: an independent hand-arm vibration and noise assessment, measured to NS-EN ISO 5349-2 under simulated field conditions, so operator exposure can be planned with confidence.
| Configuration | Noise Leq dB(A) | Hand-arm vibration m/s² | Vibration guideline (max/day) |
|---|
Independent assessment by Brekke & Strand Akustikk AS (report AKU-01, 2026) to NS-EN ISO 5349-2. Values are trigger-time levels including measurement uncertainty; daily-use guidance follows the vibration action/limit bands and assumes hearing protection. Confirm exposure for your own work using the report and an ISO 5349-2 calculator. This is a vibration & noise assessment, not an ATEX certification.
