Sparks are why surface preparation so often triggers a hot work permit. Abrasive blasting media striking steel gives off energy as sparks or light on impact — which on live plant, in tank farms, or anywhere with an explosive atmosphere means shutdowns, permits and fire watch before work can start.
Can surface preparation be sparkless?
Yes — the Bristle Blaster® is ATEX-approved, including with dust control. Bristle tips strike the surface with kinetic energy equivalent to grit blast media, then rebound immediately: corrosion removal plus micro-indentation that exposes fresh steel, without the spark-producing media stream.
