Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers on MontiPower® technology and service: cleanliness comparable to ISO 8501-1 Sa2 ½ & Sa3, 65–85 µm Rz profile, ~1 hour belt life, ATEX approval, training via the Dr. Prepper® Academy, rental available, and quote-based purchasing through distributors worldwide.
The questions we answer most, in one place. If yours isn't here, ask a specialist — describing your substrate, standard and environment is enough.
The technology
What is bristle blasting?
Bristle blasting uses a rotating belt of hardened, forward-angled bristle tips that strike the surface and immediately rebound, removing corrosion and coatings while cutting an anchor profile in the same pass — no abrasive media, no containment.
What cleanliness standard does the Bristle Blaster® reach?
A cleanliness comparable to ISO 8501-1 Sa2 ½ & Sa3 (SSPC-SP10/SP5 visual equivalents), depending on belt and technique.
What anchor profile does it produce?
A controllable 65–85 µm (2.5–3.3 mil) Rz profile — also on weld seams, edges, around bolts and in surface irregularities.
How long does a bristle belt last?
Roughly one hour of working time, or about 1 to 1.5 m² of prepared surface, depending on substrate condition.
Can it be used in explosive atmospheres?
Yes — the Bristle Blaster® is ATEX-approved, including with dust control, and works without the spark-producing media stream of abrasive blasting.
How does it compare to sandblasting?
Comparable cleanliness and profile, without loose media, dust containment or a blast yard. For large continuous areas (roughly 5,000 m² and up), conventional blasting may still be more economic; everywhere access, containment or permits are the constraint, grit-free wins on total job time.
Tools & belts
Which tool is right for my job?
Bristle Blaster® for corrosion, coatings and profile on steel; MBX® for lighter coatings, rust and automotive substrates; Vinyl Zapper® for vinyl, stickers and adhesive; Tercoo® for bulk removal of heavy rust and thick coatings; Prepper® robotics for large or hazardous areas. When in doubt, ask us — describing your substrate and standard is enough.
How do I choose the right belt?
Use the interactive Belt Selector, which matches belt type, width and grade to your substrate, cleanliness standard and target profile.
Is there a subsea version?
Yes — the Bristle Blaster® Subsea, developed for underwater surface preparation on offshore and marine assets.
Buying, training & service
Do you offer training?
Yes — hands-on operator training through the Dr. Prepper® Academy (Training), on-site or in Hennef, covering technique, standards and certification.
Can I rent tools instead of buying?
Yes, rental is available for project work — see the Tool Rental page for terms.
How do I buy, and what does it cost?
MontiPower® sells through regional offices and authorized distributors. Request a quote describing your application, or find your nearest distributor — pricing follows configuration and volume.
What about repairs and warranty?
Register your tool for warranty coverage, and use the repair service for maintenance and fixes; spare parts are available for the full range.
