Short answer: In performance tests on board Petrobras’ FPSO P-74, with Estrutural and Actemium, the MontiPower Tercoo® removed existing epoxy coatings of up to 450 µm DFT and ISO 8501-1 Rust Grade D corrosion from steel structures, piping and deck flooring, leaving the steel clean and ready for a new coating system. On the deck, Tercoo® and Bristle Blaster® were used together.
MontiPower Brasil tested the Tercoo® on board the FPSO P-74, a floating production unit operated by Petrobras, together with Estrutural and Actemium. The aim was to see how the tool performs on the kinds of surfaces an offshore maintenance crew deals with every day.

What was tested
| Applications | Steel structures reached by rope access (IRATA-certified technicians), piping systems and the vessel’s deck flooring |
|---|---|
| Corrosion | Severe: ISO 8501-1 Rust Grade D |
| Existing coating | Epoxy systems up to 450 µm dry film thickness (DFT) |
| Tools | Tercoo®; Tercoo® and Bristle Blaster® combined on the deck flooring |
| Partners | Estrutural and Actemium, on board Petrobras’ FPSO P-74 |
Results
The Tercoo® removed the existing coatings and corrosion without significant difficulty, leaving the steel thoroughly cleaned and properly prepared for a new protective coating system.
On the deck flooring, the combination of Tercoo® and Bristle Blaster® gave high productivity, strong surface preparation results and a clear saving in time.

Why two tools
Both tools remove corrosion, mill scale and existing protective coatings, but they leave a different surface:
- Bristle Blaster® creates a defined roughness profile (anchor profile) that meets coating adhesion requirements.
- Tercoo® is an effective mechanical preparation method that leaves a clean, uniformly roughened surface.
Used together, the Tercoo® takes off the heavy coating and corrosion, and the Bristle Blaster® delivers the profile the coating specification asks for.
If you can’t blast, Bristle Blast. Ask MontiPower for a test on your own structure.
