Аккумуляторные инструменты MontiPower Ultimate Cordless на базе аккумуляторной технологии CAS

May 11, 2026By MontiPower9 мин чтения

MontiPower's Ultimate cordless surface preparation tools — the Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless, the MBX® Cordless and the Vinyl Zapper® Ultimate — are all built on the CAS (Cordless Alliance System) 18 V battery platform. Every tool in the cordless range draws from the same battery pool: a single battery type powers the surface preparation workflow, from rust removal and profiling to decal stripping, without a proprietary battery locked to a single tool. This article explains what each tool does, how the battery options compare, what CAS compatibility means in practice, and why CAS has nothing to do with ATEX approval.

For maintenance operations in energy, offshore, marine and heavy industry where several surface preparation tasks are performed in the same shift or the same location, this battery unification is a meaningful operational change. It consolidates the battery supply chain, reduces spare inventory and allows battery rotation across tools without compatibility constraints.

The three Ultimate cordless tools — what they do and where they work

Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless

The Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless is a rotary impact surface preparation tool that produces surface cleanliness comparable to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2½ / SSPC-SP 10 and creates an anchor profile of 65–85 µm Rz on standard carbon steel in documented tests, with a texture similar to that of abrasive blasting. Results vary with steel grade, rust grade, belt and technique. It runs at 2,200 rpm for controlled, low-vibration work, has a safety switch, an anti-vibration handle and an adjustable accelerator bar for hard-to-reach objects, and gives approximately 25 minutes of surface preparation time on an 18 V / 8.0 Ah battery. It uses no abrasive media, which removes the containment and disposal of spent grit; the coating specification and data sheet still decide whether the result is accepted.

The Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless is the natural choice for spot repair, field joint coating preparation and structural maintenance in remote or elevated locations — anywhere a blast-comparable surface is needed without a blasting set-up or a power supply. For use in ATEX-classified atmospheres (offshore decks, refineries, petrochemical facilities), the Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic is the appropriate MontiPower tool. The cordless version does not carry ATEX certification.

MBX® Cordless

The MBX® Cordless is an 18 V MBX® with a dead man's switch, protection cover and vibration-absorbing handle. It is designed for car body panels and similar thin substrates: it removes rust, paint, underseal, sealants, adhesives and gaskets and dresses weld seams without heat or warping, using color-coded belts (black for underseal, ocher for rust, green for paint, blue stainless steel for non-ferrous metals). The MBX® is a cleaning tool; it is not intended for preparing structural steel to a blast-comparable standard — that is the Bristle Blaster®'s job. MontiPower recommends the 18 V / 8.0 Ah pack, which lasts for up to about 0.5 m² per full charge. The MBX® Cordless does not carry ATEX certification.

Vinyl Zapper® Ultimate

The Vinyl Zapper® Ultimate removes vinyl, adhesive residues, reflective foils, stickers, decals and double-sided tape from acrylic paint on metal, bright metals, wood, aluminum and trim panels. Its patented natural-rubber eraser belt works mechanically at up to 3,200 rpm without chemicals or solvents and is designed to leave the paint underneath undamaged, avoiding the handling and disposal of chemical stripping agents. Typical uses include vehicle fleets, rolling stock and equipment markings. It uses the same CAS battery system as the other Ultimate tools — one battery infrastructure across all three.

CAS battery options for the Ultimate range

The Ultimate cordless tools operate on 18 V CAS battery packs. MontiPower lists the following capacity options:

Battery pack MontiPower item code Voltage Capacity Weight Best for
LiHD 18 V 5.5 Ah ZU-600 18 V 5.5 Ah 0.9 kg / 2.0 lb Work at height, confined access, lighter-duty tasks
LiHD 18 V 8.0 Ah ZU-602 18 V 8.0 Ah 1.0 kg / 2.2 lb Continuous surface preparation, high-demand applications
LiHD 18 V 10.0 Ah Consult MontiPower 18 V 10.0 Ah — Maximum runtime for extended continuous work

The packs include an LED capacity indicator with a press-to-check button, thermal protection and a battery management circuit compatible with CAS chargers. For continuous surface preparation — particularly with the Bristle Blaster® under load on heavily corroded steel — the 8.0 Ah pack is the recommended choice; on that pack MontiPower quotes approximately 25 minutes of Bristle Blaster® working time, so carry spares for long shifts. The 5.5 Ah pack is the better option where pack weight is a handling concern.

Because all three Ultimate tools use the same battery, a team running the full workflow — Bristle Blaster® for steel preparation, MBX® for panel cleaning, Vinyl Zapper® for decal removal on the same asset — manages a single battery inventory. This is particularly relevant on jobs where several tools are deployed simultaneously and battery rotation between team members is part of the work plan.

CAS compatibility: what it means in practice for maintenance teams

CAS compatibility means that 18 V CAS batteries from any CAS member brand are compatible with MontiPower Ultimate cordless tools. A Metabo 18 V CAS battery already in a team's inventory powers the Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless directly. The compatibility works both ways: MontiPower packs power CAS tools from the other member brands. According to the Cordless Alliance System, the platform now covers more than 50 brands and over 500 tools in the 18 V class.

For operations standardized on CAS as their cordless platform, MontiPower Ultimate tools integrate into the existing battery ecosystem without additional procurement. CAS chargers already on site charge MontiPower packs, and existing battery storage and management processes apply. There is no parallel infrastructure for surface preparation equipment.

For operations not yet on CAS, adding MontiPower Ultimate tools is also a decision about which battery platform to adopt — or whether to keep a separate, smaller battery pool just for surface preparation. The latter is a viable approach for operations that use surface preparation tools infrequently; for regular or intensive surface preparation, CAS alignment is the more efficient path. ATEX certification and CAS: understanding the distinction

CAS is a battery and tool compatibility platform — it does not confer hazardous-area certification. ATEX ratings are tool-specific and must be evaluated independently for each tool model. Within the MontiPower range, the Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic has undergone an ATEX 2014/34/EU conformity evaluation as Category 2 equipment for zone 1 explosive gas (group IIA) and zone 21 explosive dust (IIIC). Its marking (II 2G c IIA T4 X) applies to specified Bristle Blaster® belts in combination with the original pneumatic drive unit. It is fully pneumatic, with no electrical components, and is the designated tool for explosive atmospheres such as offshore platform decks, refinery maintenance zones and petrochemical classified areas. The Ultimate cordless tools — Bristle Blaster®, MBX® and Vinyl Zapper® — do not carry ATEX certification and must not be used in ATEX-classified atmospheres.

There is no battery-powered ATEX option in the range. Where a specification requires ATEX compliance, the selection is the Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic with a compressed-air supply; where power access is limited but no ATEX classification applies, the Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless. Whether work can proceed in a classified area is always decided by the site's zoning, risk assessment and permit system, so confirm the classification of each work location before selecting the tool.

Integrating the Ultimate range into an existing maintenance tool program

Adding MontiPower Ultimate cordless tools to an existing CAS-equipped maintenance program requires no battery infrastructure changes. The practical integration steps are:

  • Battery inventory assessment — determine whether existing CAS battery stock is sufficient to support MontiPower Ultimate tools alongside current tools, or whether additional packs are needed for the intended use pattern.
  • Charger compatibility — CAS chargers charge CAS batteries across member brands; no new chargers are needed if CAS chargers are already on site.
  • ATEX requirements — if the work location is ATEX-classified, the cordless Ultimate tools are not the appropriate selection. The Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic is the designated MontiPower tool for hazardous-area use.
  • Belts and accelerator bar — the Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless uses Bristle Blaster® belts and has its own adjustable accelerator bar; confirm part compatibility with existing stock against the MontiPower article list before ordering.

Key takeaways

  • All three MontiPower Ultimate cordless tools — Bristle Blaster®, MBX® and Vinyl Zapper® — run on the CAS 18 V platform, sharing a single battery type across the surface preparation workflow.
  • Battery options are 5.5 Ah (lighter, for access work), 8.0 Ah (recommended for continuous prep) and 10.0 Ah for maximum runtime. CAS 18 V packs from other member brands are interchangeable with MontiPower Ultimate tools.
  • The Ultimate cordless tools do not carry ATEX certification. For ATEX-classified environments, the Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic is the correct MontiPower tool selection.
  • Operations already running CAS tools can add MontiPower Ultimate machines with no new battery infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Metabo or other CAS battery in a MontiPower cordless tool?

Yes. MontiPower Ultimate cordless tools are part of the Cordless Alliance System, so 18 V CAS batteries and chargers from other member brands, including Metabo, work with them. MontiPower's own packs also power CAS tools from other brands. Battery capacity still decides runtime, so the 8.0 Ah pack is recommended for continuous surface preparation.

How long does a battery last on the Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless?

MontiPower quotes approximately 25 minutes of surface preparation time on an 18 V / 8.0 Ah battery. Actual runtime depends on rust grade, coating type, pressure applied and belt condition, so teams working long shifts should rotate several charged packs.

Are MontiPower cordless tools ATEX approved?

No. The Bristle Blaster® Ultimate Cordless, MBX® Cordless and Vinyl Zapper® Ultimate are not ATEX certified and must not be used in classified atmospheres. For zone 1 gas and zone 21 dust areas, MontiPower offers the fully pneumatic Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic, subject to the site's permit system.

Does the cordless Bristle Blaster® give the same result as the electric or pneumatic version?

The surface result comes from the belt and the strike-and-rebound principle rather than the drive. All Bristle Blaster® drives are specified for cleanliness comparable to Sa 2½ / SSPC-SP 10 and a 65–85 µm Rz profile on standard steel. Choose the drive by power supply, hazardous-area rules and area size.
