From Hand Tools to Robotics: A Bristle Blaster® Customer in Japan Adopts the AP System

October 25, 2026By MontiPower Japan1 min read

Most of our customers meet MontiPower through a hand tool. This contractor, a Japanese painting and blasting company, had used the Bristle Blaster® for years. As its work grew, so did the question every contractor in Japan is facing: how to cover more surface with fewer skilled operators.

The step to automation

The contractor adopted the AP system, a robotic platform for surface preparation and coating application on large steel surfaces. MontiPower Japan demonstrated it on a vertical steel wall inside a tented test area, and supports the customer as it brings the system into its projects.

Why this customer, why now

The relationship started with a hand tool and grew with the customer's needs. A contractor that knows what good surface preparation looks like by hand is well placed to judge, and get the best from, an automated system. For MontiPower Japan it is the path we want to offer every customer: start with the tool that fits the job today, and grow into automation when the work calls for it.

Why it matters

Japan has fewer young people entering the coating trades every year. Automation that takes repetitive work on large surfaces off people's shoulders keeps skilled operators where they add the most value (People). Robots that apply preparation and coating consistently help the coating last, which is prevention rather than cure (Planet). And growing with a customer from hand tools to robotics is how we build long-term partnerships (Power).
