In-Service Surface Preparation: Maintenance Without the Shutdown
Surface preparation on in-service assets is done mechanically: the ATEX-approved Bristle Blaster prepares live pipelines, tanks and plant steel to a standard comparable to ISO 8501-1 Sa2 1/2 with a 65-85 micron Rz profile - no blast media, minimal containment, and no hot work permit for the preparation step. A documented field trial measured 45 person-minutes against 260 for grit blasting.

Why blasting forces shutdowns
Loose media near live equipment, mandatory containment, spark risk demanding hot work permits, and dust that shuts down neighbouring operations. Each is manageable; together they make small in-service scopes disproportionate — which is why so much needed maintenance waits for the next turnaround, corroding in the meantime.

Bristle blasting removes each blocker: no media, minimal containment, and ATEX approval including dust control — preparation without the spark source that triggers hot work permitting.
